Raised beds make carrots possible, even on flints!

    Here are the first thinnings of some Nelson F1 carrots that I pulled today from my raised beds.

    Maybe they weren't beautiful "prize winners" but they were jolly tasty! I think they were only made possible by growing them in raised beds because my soil is very poor and flinty.

    So, don't give up if your garden is like the surface of the moon. There are ways round that problem.

    Not bad at all Flinty. I have the same problem as you. I think raised beds are the only way to go on this type of soil. The only good thing about it is being able to pick up a cutting blade anywhere in the garden, saves carrying a knife about!
