I have been donated a large clump of the below which I have split and potted up for my charity sale. I have always known them as wee primula but they may well not be. Most customers are not too fussed about the right name of a plant or not, a few however!!! Better get it right so as not upset the know it alls. Common or garden plant but nice wee things. Sure someone can put me right, thanks.

You could just make things up. Very few knowitalls would challenge a neatly labelled Festuca "Saxenburghian" or Viola "Anne Smith". Or just go with a .sp

                    Primula wanda...
It has been around for donkeys years.
Remember it well from my parents garden.
                    Grows really well when happy.
It was around long before all the new fancy hybrids.

But beware IF it is near Primula vulgaris...the true Primrose. The flowers of the primrose go a horrid, yukky colour.

A very attractive one to try and find is Primula Gigha.
                    Extremely slow growing.
Pure white flowers with yellow eye.

Quote www..."Primula 'Gigha' is named after the Isle of Gigha, a small island in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland, where this distinct white form of Primula vulgaris (common primrose) was originally found."

Cheek! That reminds me during another sale someone asked to buy a clump of rhubarb??? I didn’t have it for sale. He was referring to a pot of Ligularia Desdemona. Was tempted to say it made nice crumble but refrained:)

My god you are a fund of knowledge. I had some true Primroses growing up in the wee wood in my previous garden where I had Wanda. I dug up a few clumps and put in the garden area and some turned à wishy washy sort of maroon is that what you are talking about? Never knew why they changed from very pretty yellow to throw away grotty.

When I first started gardening, I had primulas go very murky colours because other gardens around had native primroses. I blame the bees! Now the native primroses themselves have invaded my territory en masse, so I don't grow primulas any more.

Ah well, at least slugs seem to avoid the natives, whereas my primulas used to get very nibbled.

Hi I thought Wanda had more purple foliage? And darker stems (petiole?) on the flowers?
