I'm just planning my veg beds for next year, and I was going to put my root veg where my "leafs and beans" were this year. I remember reading that they will have left nitrogen in the soil which some crops like and some don't. Will the root veg like the nitrogen or should i put somethng else in that bed?

I think you are correct, this link might help you beanie:

I think all crops will like the nitrogen left behind by your legumes (beans). The root veg will need some more fertilizer as well though next spring before you plant out. The legumes only add a bit of nitrogen.

I try, but don't always manage, to follow legumes with brassicas as brassicas are particularly nitrogen hungry and root crops less so.
