That's great about the toilet training, I'm sure that they can tell the time. Glad that you're both happy with him, they give us so much love and companionship.

Toilet training is one of the most rewarding lessons learned. Owner happy. Puppy happy too!

@Logan I cringed when I read about the claw and am glad you were able to perform first aid. :)

I sometimes wonder if animals have their own barks that mean a nasty curse word. If only they could talk

Thank you, i sort of panicked when he was crying and when i saw the blood, but when i saw the nail broken that was the worst. As long as it came off there's nothing much can do but keep it clean, they said can give him half a paracetamol for the pain, didn't know that they could have it but did give it to him.

Aye, they do indeed. We still miss our Smudge of course - lets be honest, we never replace a dog, we simply move the story on to the next chapter.

Of course you miss him, i still miss ours and it's been a lot of years since,we can never replace our dogs that have passed, the next one can be totally different. But because we've had dogs from a same breeder they do have some of the same behaviour.:)

Just an update on barley, he's doing fine with having his sock put on and 2 small food bags to keep it dry. Been bathing it with some salty water , hubby has to be there to keep him still. Over a few weeks he's been limping on one of his front legs, noticed this morning since his claw had broken he's stopped limping with the same leg, so i think that that claw was damaged some way. It doesn't stop him from dashing about still.

For years I've been trying to get barley and berry to take the worming tablet. I would make a bit of mashed potato and put the tablet in it. Barley would eat it but berry would lick the mash and leave the tablet. This time I just put the tablet on top of food and it was eaten straight away

I used to have that problem with my dog many years ago @Logan and the best way I found was to roll it in a small ball of cheese, she loved cheese and it was gone in seconds. :)

Thank you @Sheal I've tried that, all that they do is eat the cheese then spit the tablet out. Tried to put it in their mouths at the back then close the mouth and stroke the throat but no, it works better to just put it on top of their food, it goes straight away.

A few months ago we fostered a Heinz 57, former street dog from Romainia, we decided to make him a failed foster, and adopt him ourselves, now the nursery is shut until the end of January, going to take the pack out on the Mendip hills today for a good walk. So this is Zilo (or swiggers, because he trys to pinch me beer).

He is a sweetie, the previous fosterer could not cope with his barking, and chewing, and demanding attention, since he has been with us, we have had very little of that type of behaviour, and can only put it down to, he was bored due to lack of exercise and or routine, he really has been very good. He is supposed to be 8 or 9 years old, but we reckon 5 or 6, he was a street dog that got hit by a car, and not claimed, in the UK, the rescue services vet thought about amplitating the leg, but his other leg/s were not strong enough, they are now, and no need for the op, he limps a little in the morning, but is a little rocket at walkies time, inbetween, he is as good as gold, and kips on the sofa, or plays with one of the other 3 dogs, even the Husky.
