I love the idea of a single word for things lying around. Can you give us a phonetic pronunciation and with where the stress goes on which syllable? I can see myself taking that word on board as it would fit perfectly into our house.

      Clutter? Stuff?

In Portugal it is desarrumação (des-a-room-a-sow)...a dirty or untidy state of things or of a place. :heehee:

You say it more or less as you see it.
The first bit, Ani, sounds like Anniversary ... Anni-versary ...
and then BENdod ... accent on the 'BEN'.

        "anni-BENdod" :smile:

It means things lying about in an untidy way.

We call it clutter. I try to keep things tidy but when I've got seed packets and lists of what to do when laying about, I have quite a bit of clutter laying about.

I visited a friend the other day and saw their cat for the first time. I took an antihistamine a few hours before I went and it was lovely not to get punished for petting!

Clutter, for me, has a sense of quantity. My wardrobe is cluttered with clothes that I haven’t bothered to throw away for 20 years and the door will hardly close anymore. My hubby’s “office” isn’t cluttered in the sense of being full of things. He just leaves a biro here, the cable for his phone, a calendar from last year and a book he’s read there, instead of putting them away.

The light background is the key with photographing black pets. My Charlie is almost impossible to take a good picture of especially if snuggled in a ball.

How about this word for the act of furiously tidying up before an unexpected visitor arrives: scurryfunge.

We have all ways had cats but we looked after the nieces dog Madie for the last 6 years 2 days a week sleepovers holidays ect ,we grew very attached to her and when her owners came to pick her up she used to go outside greeted them and walk back into our house ,she passed away 18 months ago ,so we miss a pet and decided to re home an older cat ,thought it would be easy but what happened to walking round the cat shelters and choosing a cat ,all on line now this and so many rules some saying all cats from us must be indoor cats we have tried for 2 which showed wanting adoption on line but than were told had been adopted how come things have got so hard .

I think they have made things more difficult because of people not being sure and often taking them back.
Its about making sure you are committed.

You can visit the RSPCA rescue centre in Swansea where I got Dewi from, every day except Wednesdays, which is their cleaning day.
You can also look on their website.
To adopt a cat you just fill the on line form, but there's a fee of £85 for a cat and more for a dog. It's to make sure you really want the animal.
There's a Cats Protection centre near Bridgend, and the same goes for them. Bella (previous cat) and the one before Bella both came from there.

You can visit the RSPCA centre in Swansea without even wanting an animal, my next door neighbours take their little boy down there to see the animals, and there's a cafe there too.
I don't think it will actually be long before they adopt something.
