I've put this in Herbs and Wildflowers 'cos we don't have a section for 'shrooms but I found these beauties growing amongst grass behind sand dunes near Montrose at the weekend. The large open one was about 5" dia. Haven't a clue what they are, I thought they might have been one of the Amanita genus at first but I've searched and can't find a match. I didn't want to disturb or pick them as it's a conservation area.
Could be Shaggy Parasol(Lepiota rachodes)or another parasol type. I came accross these when I was trying to ID mine. BM
I agree with BM but would add that the critical point in this ident is whether or not there is a volval bag: at the point where the stalk meets the ground it should swell. If there is any evidence of an outer ring - as if it was growing out of an egg - then leave well alone. But it sure looks like yummy old Lepiota rhacodes. Lightly fried in butter with salt and pepper to taste. After Field Parasols, the best mushrooms I ever ate. PS In my neck of the woods they're not uncommon
The photos are lovely i love fungi..they take lovely photos will have to see if i can find one to take a photo of..
