Some time ago I recommended Prunus Kojo-no-mai as a small tree in a garden. Its normally as shrub, but has been sold grafted onto what looks like a birch.

Well mine is no in full flower - and it lives up to its nickname Flight of Butterlies. Its a real picture.

Thats a pretty tree Fran, and an interesting choice of rootstock for grafting.

Looks beautiful Fran. Can one species of tree be grafted onto another?

Its more of a shrub than a tree - they had both at my local garden centre, the shrub and the grafted one - which I preferred. I'm guessing its grafted on a birch cos thats what the trunk looks like.

I'm tempted to put it in the garden and let it grow - but as the graft site is so high, I don't want it to grow too big - to much risk of loosing it in high wind - so will keep it in a container for now.
