It is a bit deeper than just uninstalling, it is a case of going into Windows settings, Device Manager, find the device in the tree view, remove the device, restart the PC and plug the camera back in

To be Honest I'm now looking at this and wondering why I'm bothering, I've never used a camera software in the past 15yrs, so why am I bothering now?:biggrin:
Never managed to get pictures from my phone to the laptop either, I just think windows is incompatible with any other system, or at least makes it as difficult as possible.
Or maybe its all the others.

Think I'll just carry on pushing the memory stick into the laptop and not bother with what looks like a very fussy and user unfriendly Sony set up.

Next problem, I cant upload to GC because the files are too large, I'm not going to go down the route of resizing all pictures before uploading so have I got to take pictures in a lower resolution.

You can get free software that will resize photos in bulk. I must admit, I think I did the same with our Sony camera and ended up just shoving the memory stick into the laptop in the end as it was easier than faffing around in device manager all the time; it won't come up as Sony in device manager by the way - they tend to show up as a generic USB device (and that is part of the problem)

Hi FC, I've now moved the picture quality down one notch and it uploads ok.

Ok, thought it would show up as sony something or other, always worried about deleting something if I'm not 100% sure what it is.

I'm guessing the video that this camera takes is not great quality .

Possibly not - they were designed to concentrate more on photos, and not video; Sony did that quite deliberately to try to get you to buy a video camera as well. I used to work in a Sony Centre - I know how they tick, and it is all about selling you something else....

Yeah like a case, and a bag and a flash.

The video is fine as long as you dont move the camera, if you get my meaning.

Chances are it hasn't got any OIS being a stills camera, so any movement will throw it a proper wobbler.

Lot of money to be made selling accessories like that - often more than the product itself!

I once got a right royal telling off by my boss for buying 1000 SCART leads (remember them?) - it wasn't the money aspect as they were 1p each, it was just the storage of the things really - - - he stopped complaining when we were knocking them out at £9.99 each, and that was a fiver cheaper than anyone else in town. We made a bundle on them.

Just worked it out, I think.
Changed a setting on the camera USB mode to "mass storage" and now its recognising the camera and importing video.
And playback on the video is much smoother and a fair quality
Problem now is the video is in AVCHD format, and to upload to websites it needs to be MP4.
Sounds like I know what I'm talking about.:roflol:

Download a free program called Handbrake - that will change AVCHD over to MP4 for you

It doesn't state AVCHD as an input format.

Really? I am surprised at that - it converts just about anything that program
