There's a large area in the walled garden that is not used, I've cleared away the weeds and when I've mowed the two large lawns I've being spreading the grass clippings over it at around 2" thick as a mulch.

I've just ordered the wild flower seed and it says to sow now, what I want to know is if I broadcast the seed on top of the clippings will it work??.

    Hi,

Doubt it, think removing the mulch so the seed comes into good contact with the soil is the right way.

They usually suggest spreading the seed and then gently raking in and firming down and a very gentle watering if needed.

Think with most wild flowers they like poor soil so to out compete with the grass, so mulches , fertilizers etc are to be avoided.
