      Nice one Loof :)

      Just barreled up 5 gallons of Blackcurrant, making another 5 tomorrow. Have freed up 2 gallon jars so will get creative with something to fill those back up too :ccheers:

          This is my first go so I'm using a kit but after a bit of research I'm planning on a few more experimental wines, and the inevitable peapod wine of course

            My mother used to make her own wine and I seem to recall her making some from nettles, potato peelings (?) and all sorts of otherwise unused items.

            Never saw her drink any of it though :scratch: :dunno:

            There are a few of us home wine makers on here. I don't drink but I make loads of the stuff. Makes a great gift for friends and is always appreciated. It's great for using up leftover fruit, veg and foraged goodies. :)

            I made Banana wine around 12 years ago, you have to simmer everything up together (skins included), It tastes really nice but it is a very messy wine to make due to the froth that came off on the first ferment.

                Tip #1 Make demijohns out of 5 litre plastic water bottles costing £1 each. Fit one of these grommets costing 12p each from ebay 13mm grommets, pack of 25 that are just the right size to take an airlock. Starting off a full 5 litre container helps get a full 1 gallon demijohn when you rack off the sediment. They can also be fitted to any wide capped bottle, so you can make 1, 2 and 3 litre sized 'demijohns' which enables you to avoid having partially full containers where the excess air will oxidise the wine and spoil it.

                How do you keep the Demijohns at temperature, I do not have an airing cupboard or fireside
                I think running an electric tray day and night at todays electrickery cost would not be worth it

                I have all the gear from years ago, when I managed six gallons of Rhubarb wine

                I am more into distilling
