    Hello.
I have been growing cordon apples for the past 5 years and the trees are providing a good crop.

i am tempted to try something different now and like the idea of growing a stepover pear tree . Has anyone got stepover pears and would care to share some tips especially on choosing a suitable variety.

    Thank you

Do you own any pears at the moment or have them in neighbouring gardens? I ask as all aren't self fertile and if you only wish for one tree you'd need to make sure it's self fertile unless there are others nearby.

I only know of one person with a step over and he has the same variety as I grow as a normal tree, which is concorde. It's a cross between Conference and Doyenne de comice, crops early and stores quite well. It is a eating pear and pretty reliable so might be worth a look.

@Thevictorian Thank you for your input , i dont have any pears but my neighbours either side have conventional pear trees. Thats well worth knowing about concorde at your end which i could probably get mail order as a young stepover ; i am tempted to try something different with a maiden and do my own thing , i need to do more research but input such as this is a big help . Thanks again.
