    This last set of pictures is beautiful rosa, lovely shots with the elegant wings raised. Does it have a particular name when swans raise their wings like that - does anyone know?

    thank you kedi-gato, I dont know myself iff there is a name when they raise their wings like this but maybe someone might know.pleased you like the pictures took them in my local marden quarry nature reserve.

    was just thinking it could be a defence thing as when it came into the shallows there was a canadian geese and they made such a noise

    I don't know what it's called - but it is what the male swans in particular do at this time of year when they are protecting their territory. It makes them look bigger to any swan daring to tressapass!

    Went today took a 30 minute drive to killingworth lake, northumberland. got lots of lovely pics of the swans
