Thats PC type tablets I`m talking about, Not those you have with water.

I have just bought myself an Acer A500 32gb jobby.
What a cracking good piece of kit.
Still getting to grips with it all. It seems to have just about everything going for it.

Have we any other tablet users on the forum?

Yes.. well I think so.. I need more time to evaluate them and see how useful they are to me.
There was a report that theres not many compared with the Ipad. That may be true, but what there is and whats coming is looking good.
We have an Ipad2 in the house as well and can shortly make comparisons.

First battery charge on the Acer was 4 hours and so far has run for 7.5 hours with 37% left.....happy with that.

I'm using an HP Touchpad had it about a month. Only got it because they were selling them off cheap. It makes a great wireless photoframe, but for lots of web browsing and posting on the forum it's not so good, I'd rather have a proper keyboard. It's useful for quickly checking the weather and news too.

Oh I see so you were one of the lucky ones who managed to pick up an HP tablet for under £100?

How do they feel when you type on them?

I'm reluctant to take the plunge because in general, I don't like the feel of touchscreen devices. My mobile is a touchscreen jobby and after 6 months of being in pocket and getting banged about as I work, part of the screen sticks down so I keep phoning people by accident.

I have just run my tab done to 3% battery after the first 4 hour charge. Its telling me it has run for 11Hrs 38 minutes. That from 100% to 3% battery life.
        Now thats impressive...

I find no problems typing on the solid virtual keyboard. That could mean that the novelty is still fresh though..or, its a rather clever piece of kit.

Well the tablet is too big to fit in a pocket :heehee:

I don't really like the virtual keyboard. Some collegues have bought a wireless keyboard to go with it, but to my mind they would be better off with a netbook. It's OK for short periods I suppose.

The 'instant on' idea is the best thing really, you can just pick it up,switch it on and it's immediately ready, no faffing about waiting for windows to boot up.

You can get covers for tablets, not just the thin piece of clear screen for marks but there are more sturdy covers/sleeves to slip them into and better protect.

I don't own a tablet but worked for a while with PC World and it was my section really and I had a lot of fun playing around with them. I much prefer tablets than the Ipads (although I'm not a fan of Apple as a whole). Certainly I think there's a lot of good technology not only in Android terms but within every individual manufacturers terms as well. Very little tablets had big issues generally.

What surprised me with tablets is how little people understood about them as many people expected it could only perform a few basic functions and didn't understand just how divere they could be (and how powerful they are!) :)

You are right in your statements chipmunk.
Apart from the usual popular games the browser is great.
I can have it on and reading GC within seconds.
          As for the apps...
There a couple of sky gazer type apps that seem to be very clever.
Saterlite AR with the GPS and magnetometer when calibrated can pinpoint the location of every saterlite up, and there`s a lot. You just need to point it to the sky in which either direction and there they are.

Then theres Google Sky Map which, once calibrated will show you all the stars and planets with accurate location. Both Very handy for star gazing.
