Oh, i'm sure they will. I was just putting it up to show what extreme weather we're getting at the moment.

Things that have stood for years are crumbling, there are collapsed banks on loads of the roads around here & half the coastline is slipping into the sea.

Been there numerous times, the last being Easter 2010

My daughter was about 7 when she first saw those steel hawsers and we had a devil of a job convincing her it wasn't some adventure trail across the river.

We've been there a few times, it must be some torrent that washes it away.

A great shame Zigs, hopefully it will be restored/rebuilt, haven't been there since the 70s.

Sorry Zigs, didn't mean to make it sound trivial.

But it appears it was damaged 60 yrs ago, hence the steel cables.
That's not long ago bearing in mind its been there a thousand years.

Probably would have been wiped out sooner without the protection.
Maybe the steel cables should have been replaced before now.

:) None taken Pete, I admire your positive thinking:biggrin:

You could be right, but not much will stand up to having a whole oak tree smashed against it.

Has anyone seen if we broke the rainfall record last year? Not noticed anything about it, but the headlines seem to be full of drivel at the moment.

Last I saw was that England broke the record several days before the end of the year, but the UK record status would take a few days into the New Year to verify whether it was a new record or not (but on the basis of the torrential rain here on New Year's Eve I reckon there's a good chance).

Not anything like the same scale, but I am amazed at the amount of damage that has been done to road surfaces around here with only fairly minimal flooding. Yesterday morning was the driest the roads have been in a few weeks, and there are loads of potholes, cracks sinking manhole covers.

I must admit, I always thought that it was the cold icy weather that really did the damage, but it seems that water is just as bad.

Hopefully they will rebuild those steps though Zigs - so sad when something that has been there for so long suddenly disappears.

I think the pot holes are caused by salt, along with zero maintenance.
