New scientist this week reckoned that in a nationwide/global pandemic it wouldn't take long for civilisation to collapse (ie lines of communication and power cuts etc). So assuming that you survive the initial disaster where would you head for? and who would you take with you in order to help your survival and comfort?
I would choose a nice offshore island or failing that Anglesey. Would take Ray Mears as his bushcraft would come in useful, Monty Don for his talent with veg, Gordon Ramsey as chef and bouncer in case looters came calling, and of course my lovely wife Michele for her all round usefulness ;)
Who would you chose and why?

I would carry on in my garden, and probably not notice. The whole object of a garden is to get away from it all.

Hmmmmmmm, I'll have a think about this one and get back to you. At the moment, I think it could well be New Zealand, although they might not be imune from a global pandemic.

Hi TLA, in case you haven't seen my post I'm going to win the lottery & buy an island for us all - think that would do.

Actually i think it's not that far off, not our generation but soon. We won't have a choice as such but i'm for PeterS & woo. Just carry on - still sowing etc.

    cheers

Cool can we have a sunny island?

The article got me thinking about reliant we have become on technology, not that this is necesarily a bad thing as such, and that people don't make and mend as they used to. I grew up with coal and log fires, darned sock and clothes, pantries stocked with food, allotments and local butchers and greengrocers and I remember well the powercuts in the 70's when we would light candles and sing or play games till the lights came back on.
Most modern houses do not have chimneys and everything is electric. I think that is why I like gardening so much it is that connection with the earth and a sense of self reliance.

Come on Kathy3, you have lots of sun, all right too much rain etc. but let forget that cos you have all the greenery.

When i (as you know i'm going to win the lottery and buy an island, and we're all going to live there/sort it out) have this, we're going to live like years ago. Give, don't be involved if it's not wrong, love, if it's not wrong, take, if it's not wrong.

Blimey, i've just sounded like a saint. I'm not.

    But ....wishful thinking.

    cheers
