I remember from the 1970's a place beside a big car park called the Abbey Café that was a wholefood/vegetarian place (that also sold all sorts of other stuff), but from checking on the net it doesn't seem anything like those tea rooms.

Lovely motor the Corsair 1500GT , wonder how many BHP a 1500 GT pulled in the mid sixties. The little GT badges on the rear wing were so cool then , along with quarter bumpers :dbgrtmb:
Not had a proper cream tea in years ! They were so good . There is a difference between Cornish and Devon cream teas , isn't there ?

Another random thing that happens in Glastonbury is that at about 7:45AM a bus labelled 'Tor' pulls into a big car park and stops. Then the driver gets out and sits on the step with a flask of tea and a smoke. Then when you ask what time he's going up the tor, he says 'ooh aarggh thar bus dont go up there tor while nine o clorrk'.

Those were the days Freddy, I remember the Pilton Rock Festival before those control freaks got hold of it.
I also worked at the Slaughter house in Glastonbury, called Appleby's on the high street. The main area was out the back where all the work was done.
All the road kill and poached meat came through too.

Yeah, the good old days, when you could see 'real' musicians performing for not a lot of money. Great atmosphere too. Almost like a 'brotherhood' or something. I suppose this somewhat romantic view is just a sign of getting old....

Probably true Fred mate , I think as you get older you tend to romanticise your past and think how good the "old days were"..................

Yeah, I think you're right, but it strikes me that many of the younger generation don't know how to 'rock' anymore. Too many so-called reality shows featuring acts that have no longevity, or 'samey' boy bands. I look at it this way, will anyone be still playing songs of today in 40 or 50 years time? I have my doubts. Sorry, I've gone 'off thread'

I think every generation experiences a special time when there is a collective or brotherhood.

For me, coming of age in at the beginning of the 1990s, it was the Rave movement. To anyone outside of my age group, that was all about noise, stupid clothes, and drugs. To those of us that were there, it was all about a union of like minded people (most of whom didn't bother with the drugs, including me) getting together with no inhibitions, live and let live, best mates with total strangers, and the foolish belief that it was our generation that was in the unique position of being about to witness a drastic change for the better in the world when people would finally realise that we're all part of the same one entity.

Seems to me in hindsight that that's exactly what my dad is trying to describe when he talks about his youth, and the hippies just before him etc.

I don't think we look back with rose tinted glasses or anything. I think that every generation tries to make a difference for the better, then ultimately get ground down and forced to grow old because that's the social norm. But have no doubt, every generation does make a difference for the better. We might not solve everything in one go, but history clearly shows that bit by bit, we're chipping away at it.
