Why is it if men Dye/Tint either Head Hair,Beard Or Moustache, some of the opposite Sex will say,"Oh You Should Grow Old Gracefully" !!.

Women can Dye/Tint their hair in their Eighties and this is acceptable,no one bats an eye.. My oldest daughter said this to me,after I had my hair tinted for a wedding,"Oh Dad,you should grow old gracefully".

This made me laugh, as she had just returned from the hairdresser with,
JET BLACK HAIR !!, she had light brown hair when she left the house. :).

I have a full head of hair ,and I like my hair done,as they call,Salt+Pepper.
It makes me feel good and I think look better.:blue thumb:.

Have You Any Views On This on this subject ??.

It's part of the syndrome that women are allowed, nay, expected, to be obsessed with their appearance to the nth degree whereas for men it is just unnecessary and even just a tad unmanly to give it much thought or to display vanity.

If you think that's unfair, try totting up the annual bill of 8 haircuts/blowdries per year at at least £25 a throw; this is the basic minimum required for correctly presented female hair. Add in restyles, colouring, highlights, conditioning treatments etc and you can probably add another £500 pa to that.

Once coloured, hair needs a massive amount of upkeep in order to avoid the black roots look, complex cuts need regular expert trims to maintain them, social pressures cause women lots of neuroses about hair.

So there are reasons to be grateful that you are not expected to get onto the haircare treadmill! Quite apart from not having to bother trying to look 17 when you are actually 80, this represents a big burden on women, although many voluntarily choose it. (If you don't you'll be castigated for being a right old dog who's let herself go.)

NB, I'm quite sure you are neither unmanly nor 80, music!

some people look fantastic in white hair [see armandii].
I dye my hair as i dont think I woud look convincing in white just yet.
I don't like the idea of chemicals on my scalp though, and the amount of work invoved in dying the hair.
Men are usually less fussy when it comes to appearance but i dont see why they shouldnt spruce up their look if they feel like.

When my eldest brother reached his mid 30's he decided to dye his salt and pepper hair back to his usual colour. The trouble was, it was so ... obvious!? But I quite liked that he'd thought about it. Never got the opportunity to see him with "silver" hair (his preferred term :heehee: ) because he never made it to 40. So, good on him for doing it, I say: life is way to short.

I also don't see it as a gender thing; if someone wishes to take care of their appearance, or enhance it a little, and it makes them feel happier ... :ccheers:

I think men can get away with it easier....they do seem to grow older more gracefully....IMHO...the only thing is once you start colouring you can't stop.....not unless grey roots become the 'in' thing:th scifD36:

Wife and I once decided to have a night out on't town, first time in years that we went to the trendy end.

I am not exaggerating, a couple of times I wondered if we'd inadvertently walked in a new drag bar. A bloke might get away with dying his hair, and wearing nice clothes. Maybe even moisturising lightly if its the weather has been a bit harsh on the face, although that is going a bit far. Its not right to smell like you surviving an explosion in the perfume factory, and then while limping home from said explosion, its a bit unfortunate to also get caught in the explosion in the neighbouring fake tan factory. Still, chuck some nice clothes on and get your hair done in a mullet and nobody will know the difference:dbgrtmb:

It depends on what you are comfortable with ... that is the most important thing. My hair colour is natural but strange as the front is white blond and the back roots are strawberry blond so when I clamp it up on top of my head I am two-toned! :heehee:But I like it and that is what counts. :dbgrtmb:

Hair? Ah, yes. I remember when I had hair.
For me, colour, or lack of it, is no longer an issue. :patpat:

Oh ladies I and I am sure a lot of other men just prefer au natural

It is much much better than an eighth of an inch of grey/white at the scalp with
rich blonde or brunette for the rest, that does make one look older and to be honest
                      unkept IMHO

There again, I prefer a mature woman, and I am not in the running for a younger model
