Cut lawns and placed cuttings on this years compost heap, replacing the wooden framed polythene top. A hour or so later I lifted the lid to throw on some kitchen stuff and there he/ she was, an adult toad. It had already made a suitable hole in the grass cuttings and seemed quite content. I apologised, lowered the lid and left leaving the kitchen stuff for another day. Toads always welcome just wish there were more of them. I will have a peep tomorrow.

I love it when we find that we are sharing our garden with these little (or not so little) amphibians!

If (s)he is still there today, just put the kitchen scraps in a different corner, without running a shadow over him/her. In my experience, their first line of defence is to sit still!

Nice find hans, I've still got my Toad in a bag of seed compost, I moved him out a few weeks ago into a water feature but he found his way back. He just seems to stay in there all the time, the grandkids find him fascinating and get him out each week, I'd of thought he wouldn't like that and go and hide somewhere else but he doesn't seem to mind.

Just a bit of a update. This year we have 3 toads 2 large and one small. The small one was found In a poor spot under some old table bits put ready by the gate to go for recycling. I gave him a large earthworm and took some photos. The meal lasted for around 5 mins lots of swallowing and front leg movements. The worm almost escaped once or twice quite interesting.

Not too nice really but this is what our wildlife do. I moved him to the compost heap as it is nice and warm. He is stayed there for a few days.. probably like going to Majorca.
