Really enjoyed 'Toast' on BBC1 tonight; for once it really was worth turning the telly on. Thought Helena Bonham-Carter was fab, as usual. :) What have the rest of you enjoyed? Have I missed anything good?

Yes I just watched that too Clare, assuming it was the play about the lad who wanted to be a chef. Mrs JWK was watching it and telling me who was who, I'd no idea who Nigel Slater was. It was highly amusing, I wonder if that Mrs Potter is still around, she didn't come out of it too well, mind you I wouldn't have been able to resist her lemon meringues either :)

The only other thing I watched over the holidays was the one about following polar bears with hidden cameras. That was fascinating.

I love lemon meringue & HBC so I was quite happy there.

I watched the Morecambe & Wise story with Victoria Wood last night, that was excellent. I like both Victoria and Jim Reeves who played Eric's Mum & Dad to great effect. I'd didn't know anything about their early career, Ernie started out as a child star in the 1930s and they really worked hard for about 20 years before they finally hit the big time, with some disasters along the way. Catch it on iPlayer folks if you missed it last night :thmb:

    Hi John

Yes, I watched this too and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had no idea that Eric had a pushy Mum behind the scenes! But then, there often turns out to be a pushy parent at the bottom of it all, don't you think? Victoria Wood was great as Mum - she's mostly great in everything she does. I liked Jim Moir as Dad, too. Last summer we were sitting in the village tearooms in Headcorn and I caught sight of a familiar face. It was Jim Moir, aka Vic Reeves, out with the missus and his two little kids! Can't think of a less showbizzy place than the village tearooms, but Mrs Moir is a bit of an eyeful and she certainly made a few old men very happy that day.

    Hi Clare,
I was disappointed with the TV programmes over Christmas and didn't watch much.
I am enjoying the soaps though!

    Hi Jazmine

I don't think you missed much! For me, Toast and the Eric and Ernie story were worth watching but there was nothing much else.

Clare, I think Vic Reeves (Jim Moir) must live out your way, my daughter used to see him in Canterbury. He and his OH used to shop in the store my daughter worked in and had great trouble with their double buggy (twins I think she said they had). The old shop had no room in the aisles. My daughter just mentioned that they were a normal couple, nothing special about his wife. Just googled her and can see what you mean and maybe why my daughter thought better of elaborating to me :D

:D Yes, I think Jim and his family live at Charing, just down the road from Headcorn. They were out for a spin in his nice vintage Jaguar, which was gleaming. So presumably he had it lovingly restored after its unfortunate tangle with a fence. :hehe:
