Today's Chilli Crop

    This is today's crop [​IMG] [​IMG] and I shall be preserving them as there are plenty more to ripen yet.

    I have only been picking about a dozen at a time up till now but they are ripening very quickly. These are all that are ripe at the moment. I'm hoping that the plants will continue to crop throughout the winter [​IMG] but we shall have to see what happens.

    You cannot fault that for a crop Shiney, superb quality.

    They look fantastic Shiney. I hear they aren't so good frozen so can I echo cauliflower ears? (I'm just trying some for the first time but they are in the flowering stage, and I hope I get some fruit).

    Thanks everyone [​IMG] This is the first year we have overwintered our plants and this is the result.

    We are trying to preserve them in olive oil. We heated the oil, poured in to small jars, screwed the lids on and let it cool. After the oil had cooled we put the chillies in, including the stems, and have put the jars in the fridge. We are not sure how well this will work.

    The normal way to preserve them is to put them into vinegar using the old fashioned method of placing them in Kilner jars (or something similar) and heating them to a high heat to kill off bacteria. You can also put them in brine. We don't like either method because they infuse the chillies with flavours we don't like on our chillies. So we are trying the oil.

    I hope that the plants continue to flower and fruit so that we can have them fresh all the time.

    There were 340 chillies in that batch :eek:

    Hi shiney, what`s the idea with heating up the oil only to let it cool again before adding the fruits ? Cheers...freddy.

    As the olive oil was from an already opened bottle we heated the oil first just as a precaution. It may not have been necessary but we did it just in case.

    Mira is correct Freddy. There were just three plants and they are only 2 - 3 ft high.
