    Hi there

About a year ago I bought a plant from a lady and I have been unable to identify it. It was advertised in the shop as a "Happy Bean". It was a large(ish) seed sat on the surface of the soil with a small stem of about 1 1/2 inches tall attached to it. It is now about a foot high, tree like, with green leaves and a slowly woodening stem.

Any idea what it might be. Any help much appreciated.

What size , shape and colour was the bean? And what shape are the leaves?
Very large ones could be coconuts or cocoa beans, small could be broad beans or green beans! There's a few exotic plant fanciers who can probably help, especially with some more details. [IMG]

    Hi

I think I have done it right. I will put all 3 links on here just to make sure.

Hope this helps with identification. The seed was green, about an inch cubed in volume, with two distinct halves, and after about 6-8 weeks it had shrivelled up, and came off the stem.

Some tropical legume is my guess, not much help I know, must be a tree of some kind.
Having said that, it also looks a bit pagoda tree like.

Yeah, the lady I bought it from said it was tropical. Is there an on-line resource that might have pictures of it when the seed was still attached. I think that might be the best time from which to identify it.

    Pete

I think maybe. But having looked at various web sites they all show older trees. I need to see a picture of the plant germinating, or at least in its first 2-3 weeks. Any ideas?

It has a leaf pattern similar to a plant I have grown from a seed picked up in a Florida hotel garden. Similar but not the same. It is hard to identify plants that have no immediate distinguishing features. It does a appear to be an immature tree or large shrub. [IMG]

Yes I think there must be hundreds of plants that look similar to that, it looks evergreen? Though can we be sure?
A pic taken when the seed was still visable might help.
Never seen a seed that matches the description, a green seed, with two distinct halves.
