Hi,I've inherited an overgrown missmash & am open to advice.
1.An over tall (10') x too wide beech hedge. Is now an ok time to cut it back ,it may bare the top & one side. Will it recover & regrow from next spring ok.

2.An overgrown yew hedge that if acceptable needs cutting back on the sides by 6" at the base & 18" at the top of this 10 ft high hedge.Again this will bare it back to brown wood. Is now the time & will it recover next year.

3.An out of shape (conical) leylandii some 20 ft high needs a good haircut all round.Ditto as above.

Hi yewandme and welcome, the Beech hedge can be cut back now as you want it without too much problem. the conifers, however, cannot be cut back into old wood. If you go back beyond the green needles, ie into the brown wood, then they will not rejuvinate. David.
