The bloke who is alleged to have committed the murders - Dale Cregan - has been wanted for months in Manchester for the murder of a father and son. There has been a campaign to try and find him and a substantial reward offered, plus advertising hoardings in the city centre, with his ugly mug all over them.

Just saw on the news that the Police are convinced the policewomen were lured to the property by a false report of a burglary and then gunned down.

Quite why someone would do that and then hand himself in eludes me.

So so sad and my thoughts are not only with the families and friends of the victims, but also with their colleagues on the force

Proof that evil really does walk the earth.

Yes, very sad indeed. But, are we really surprised? Sadly, we live in a sick society, where moral values have declined....

A lot of barristers will make a lot of money from US (the public) with legal aid to get him off, they win no matter what the outcome
My BIL is one, I do not know how he sleeps at night (or any of them) The longer he gets a trial to run and the more letters exchanged the more WE pay him

        Maybe for another forum, sorry

Yes, Cherub; I *am* surprised - or, perhaps, *shocked* is a better word? :noidea: This person, allegedly, lured a patrol (with no hidden agenda regarding the number, length of service, or gender of attending patrol) so he could execute them.

While there is an element of truth in your "sick society" comment, personally, I think that applies to a minority and not the majority!

So, who's responsibility is the decline in moral values? The Police? Schools? Church? Neighbourhood? Parents? Community?

Just this weekend, I was shopping (with Mr Mum) at our local supermarket: on the pavement were several youths (young 'un's) "play fighting" - on the one hand, harmless fun; on the other hand - obstructing the footpath, causing old ladies and young mum's with pushchairs to step into the road in order to get past. Worse! In their high-jinx, one of them slammed into Mr Mum. Technically, that is a "common assault" through careless/reckless behaviour. That didn't bother me quite as much as the old lady who stepped into the road (into oncoming traffic!) to avoid their "playhousing"; what *did* disturb me was the young mother, with a baby in a pram, who had to step into the road (into oncoming traffic!) to avoid their "playhousing".

So, what do I do? Do I turn a blind eye? (Nowt to do with *me*); or, do I do what was done when I was a gal and speak with them? Mr Mum prefers the blind eye approach (not on our doorstep :nonofinger: and I can respect his reasoning) I chose to speak with them and explain the impact of their behaviour, not simple to passers by, but to themselves! Did they care? Not one jot! Did I expect them to? Not really; but, I know they will remember *someone* didn't just roll over and accept their behaviour! *Someone* pulled them up and made them think for a moment or two. If that is the most I can do, then I'm glad I did. If that is the least I can do, then I am glad I did.

If moral values are declining, it is not merely an excuse to let things go; it is a call to make certain it does not diminish further! And for that, we *all* stand responsible! It's called: "civic duty".
