Crikey, that is quite pricey! :thud: Hmm, might have to rethink my mollusc strategy.

I know most stuff is pricey these days, but they do seem to jump on the organic bandwagon and think they can charge stupid prices because its green, whether it works or not seems to be of little consequence.

@ViewAhead It's the aroma that makes it work!

I have sown garlic kale this year - experimenting with new plants - and none has been touched by the molluscs whereas they ate all my cavolo nero and PSB and I've found the blighters on the Swiss chard and California poppies in adjacent trays.

Looks like garlic is the way to go. We always have some in the house - very naughty garlic bread with a peppered steak last night and more garlic is spicy Sichuan noodles this evening. I'm growing about 90 bulbs tho it's not yet ready for harvesting so I'll use my spare kitchen bulb this evening to make a solution.

I thought slugs didn't like the taste, @Obelix-Vendée.

I can't eat garlic or onions, so don't have these to hand. Ah well, copper mesh, egg shells and slug collars will have to suffice.

It does make 10L. I do think garlic spray is worth a go, so I'll start off with the stalks I get from this years harvest and test it out. Bulbs are too valuable to be wasted and I'm already looking at pulling one or two early this year as we are running our of last years garlic - hopefully the scapes will arrive and save us.

Nothing to stop you buying a bulb of garlic to make the spray @ViewAhead.

My garlic didn't do well last year @DiggersJo so I've been using bought bulbs for a couple of months.

Monty Don grows masses of garlic and said he eats it every day. Makes me wonder what his breath smells like!

We eat quite a bit of garlic most days @Busy-Lizzie … I buy two large bulbs most weeks … you’ve met me several times … I hope you’ve no complaints :heehee:

I’ve read/heard that the more garlic you eat the better able your body is to absorb it without making your breath smell … so the less often you eat garlic the more your breath will smell when you do, and that’s certainly borne out by my experience.
And of course raw garlic in a salad dressing is much stronger than cooked garlic in a sauced dish.

I hate raw garlic. I have a bit of a garlic intolerance, as does Daughter 2. One cooked clove added to a dish for more than 1 person is OK but a lot of garlic or raw garlic upsets my tummy. Daughter 1 once put rather a lot in a spag bol and Daughter 2 and I had a bad day after that but no one else was affected.

I haven't noticed your breath @Dovefromabove but maybe we haven't been close enough! I notice OH when he eats raw onion, another thing I don't like!

Living without garlic is too awful to contemplate.

Luckily our little family group all eat garlic. We have it once or twice a week. I can definitely smell it on other people, depending on their consumption level. I don't find it unpleasant like cigarette smoke which can bring me out in tears, thank goodness I've retired so I can pick and choose who I'm with.

Many years ago one of my work colleagues cooked spaghetti bolognese for the first time. The recipe said to use one clove of garlic.
Not knowing any better, she used the whole bulb ! How she and her then boyfriend managed to eat it, l have no idea (it must have been love), but the next day she absolutely reeked of it. The office smelt like an Italian restaurant and it wasn't a small room by any means.

I believe what they say about not smelling it on other people if you have have eaten it, which we do (clove to two) most days/dinners. The grandchild doesn't eat it, hates it, far too polite to complain, but you can tell the revulsion if you get too close - so loveable!
