    Hi all,
I'm a newcomer to the site but i need some advice as I'm more of a veggie grower and have practically no knowledge about what to do with trees!

I want to have a wish tree for my wedding in September, but instead of using a fake tree that i would spend a small fortune on and probably never use again, i'm more sentimental and would like to use a real tree that i could plant afterwards in our garden. But as the wedding is in early September I'm worried that some trees would be too 'leafy' to hang the wish tags on or won't have enough branches.

Can anyone help me with an idea of which tree might be a good one to use?

Hi Moq [IMG].. Hmm you are asking a difficult question there, but a couple that spring to mind as they are not thickly leaved would be...

Beech (hardy slow growing make good bonsai plants :WINK1:)

Olive, (not hardy here so would need to be in a pot & overwintered frost free)

Magnolia, (hardy & come in different sizes flower marchish)

Hello Mog,it depends on how much space you have really....my favorite is a sliver birch which are rather slender and don't cast too much shade or go for a fruit tree that you will reap the rewards for years to come:dbgrtmb:

    Welcome to Gardeners Corner:sign0016:

How about a Dawn Redwood? No, no, no. Only joking.

I'd go for a Cherry, make it a sweet one though, don't want to be picking sour cherries to remember your wedding with.

How about going for something with some appropriate superstition about them?

An apple tree is nice, and is meant to ward off evil.
Hazel is nice, supposed to contain all the wisdom of the universe.
Birch is supposed to protect from evil
Hawthorn (there is a thornless variety but I don't know its name), but beware of this one, the blossom symbolises fertility and procreation:)

There's a mediteranean wedding tradition of planting two olives close together so that thee trunks entwine as they grow, but you'd have to start with young trees and maybe you want something larger for your wedding?

like Westwales I would suggest olives tree as they are symbol of power , myrrh tree are symbols of fertility (but will not grow in UK) , Pine tree is symbols of long life and immortality.......or a fig tree (symbol of prosperity and security) like the ficus religiosa is used by buddhist
