I am currently reading "Frostquake: The frozen winter of 1962 and how Britain emerged a different country" by Juliet Nicolson. Despite being 14 at the time I cannot remember much of the 62-63 winter possibly because it wasn't that extreme in Fife and I had no interest then in following the news.

I remember it well ... my last year in school in Bedfordshire and because I lived four blocks away I had to go and walk ... knee high deep in snow! I went into college in Alabama in August 1963 and it was over 100 degrees Fahrenheit! :phew: I was only 14 but clever.

I e-mailed the author of the Zombie Fallout books yesterday - saying how much I have enjoyed the series. He's replied today - saying that he hopes I enjoy the Lycan Fallout series. Cor - I wasn't expecting a personal reply from the author himself - what a legend he is... :dbgrtmb:.

Tuesday's gone by Nicci French, I plan on reading the whole series but Blue Monday was out on loan . It's now in my account waiting for me . Oh well, not sure yet if each book follows on from the last or is a completely new case. I'm easily confused at the best of times so reading an unfolding story plot backwards won't make much difference!:roflol:

Frostquake is turning out to be a very interesting book. Each chapter looks at different things that were happening in 62-63. So far she has dealt with TW3, JFK, Harold Macmillan, Mary Quant, Wilfrid Brambell and a couple of chapters on her own very interesting family. It spots in a weather-related chapter every so often but it is a very interesting and informative read.

Started 'Lycan Fallout' - it's set hundreds of years in the future since the end of the 'Zombie Fallout' apocalypse.

I was wondering how the author would 'introduce' the lycan species - he's been very clever. The lycans have apparently always been here - they are nothing new - they have lived alongside mankind but wouldn't make their kind known - because there were so many of us. That has now changed with the zombie apocalypse - there aren't many people left - the lycans are coming out of the shadows.

This is going to be a right corker...

I have just finished V2 by Robert Harris, how we tried to nobble the V2 rockets fired on London in WW2 and as I am staying at home Covid bound I have just started the very long winded Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, I remember watching the TV series but the book is even more complex/

Be interested in what you think, I always found it incredible the character didn't have a name.

I've recently found a website for 2nd hand books that people might like to look at. I got a cookbook, a pretty weighty one too, for £3.49 delivered. That's incredible! Worldofbooks.com

Running 2 books series in parallel - Lycan Fallout and now Vampire World.

Vampire World - interesting premise - world taken over by vampires - don't yet know how/why - surviving humans live on a massive airship which circles the Earth - following the sunlight. There are only 6 books in this series so I should have them wrapped up quite quickly.

Lycan Fallout - bombshell moment - one of the 3 main characters to survive the Zombie Fallout series has been decapitated...:hate-shocked:

I've just come across a sentence in one of the books I'm reading. It is set a couple of decades from now:-

"The Oil Crash of 22 had jolted politics to the right in a major, some felt irreversible way. Social welfare as a political concept had died, stoned to death by angry, rioting mobs."

It was published in 2011 :rolleyespink:

Son of Heaven by David Wingrove.

I have started reading a series of books written by Caro Ramsey. They are detective stories, set in Glasgow. What I am finding refreshing is they are more about the characters than the story they are in.
