    I have a pair of Jays keep coming back and taking the peanuts in half dozens, would like to know where they are storing them. I would go and retrieve them for the tits for whom they were put out for.

        I'm not very good on bird ID, but apart from the usual sparrows, doves, pigeons, blackbirds, magpies, crows, bluetits etc.
        I've recently seen a thrush, the bigger kind, not seen them as much these days, wrens and a robin.
        Also what I think is probably chaffinches, oh and that heron keeps visiting early mornings.

        Presumably a Mistle Thrush Pete, they are usually seen (and heard) on the tops of trees and have a very loud song, it is known to sing in very bad weather hence it's old name Stormcock.

        Update.....

        With the current BIG FREEZE and snow we've had a few more birds coming in that we wouldn't normally see, I counted 18 Fieldfares yesterday mostly eating the hawthorn berries in the hedge and trees but every now and then a few would come down to feed on the apples I have put out. Amongst the Fieldfares there were also a couple of Redwings and Song Thrushes, you could tell these birds were not used to being in such built up areas and were very nervous as the slightest noise sent them all diving for cover. They were here all day yesterday from dusk til dawn..:dancy: :)

        Also had a brief visit from a Bullfinch and we've had increased numbers of Robins, Chaffinches, Blackbirds and Sparrows in particular..:)

          Similar to the Thrushes I mentioned in the above thread, I think they are continental or Scandinavian depending where you and are country dwelling birds rather than 'townies' and do seem to be easily frightened off. Our resident Blackbirds are keeping trying to keep the Thrushes out of the garden.
          Despite this cold, we haven't seen a Blue, Great or Coal Tit for a week or two.:frown:

          Nuthatch is the latest one to arrive, that's quite a moody bird just like the woodpecker doesn't like anyone else on the peanut feeder at the same time and I have two, a small one and a ridiculously huge one and that's the one it likes to feed on.
          Waxwings haven't seen them all day , but the sparrow hawk has been snooping around.
          Its costing me a bomb , I had a moan about this last year the bags of seed has gone smaller and the price has increased, just like Marsbars! and the price of Bill Oddies bird food is so expensive I am surprised as being a animal lover would of thought he would of made a point in at least being competitively priced

          I have got a new camera for Christmas I will have a go at getting some shots , I don't know many of the names though .

            No my worry is Green Woodpeckers this time of the year , they will peck a hole in the walls of the hives to have a main course.

            I have seen Bee eaters in Egypt though so thats a tick on the twitchers list not doing so bad after all.

                This weather has brought us wrens, goldcrests and pied wagtails as well as the usual sparrows, starlings, robins, bluetits, collared doves, jays and magpies.

                  We had Coal Tits and even more Fieldfares show up today, here's a photo of one of the Fieldfares; not great as they're so shy and stay mostly up in the Hawthorn trees, but this one came down in to our plum tree :)

                    Great shot Bilbo, I couldn't get anywhere near them or the Redwings on my walk today, very wary.

                      Another average (but satisfying :)) shot of one of our visiting fieldfares yesterday;
