Solved what is this please

Along with my rosemary this is the only plant that came with my garden and It looks lovely on the water feature at this time of year I would love to know what it is. It was once all variegated but one has fully reverted and the other has partially reverted.







any ideas?

 

Oh also i do know what this is but i cant for the life if me remember what its called. It is currently taking over the new flower bed where the old holly hedge was and weeding it is a nightmare im not well enough to keep on top of it so would like to know what it is so that i can decide how much of a problem it is. I am thinking its a big one

 

It's an Arabis, common name "rock cress". Sorry I don't know the variety.

 

I should of known that i have pink ones and white ones in my planters lol

2nd is Celandine, but i could be wrong

 

Yes it's Celandine. Very invasive and I leave it in very shady areas where not much else grows for a splash of colour in spring but pull it up in main flower beds

 

Ah thats what i thought someone might say

Sigh im going to use boiling water to kill it in the gravel where its not too near other plants and i guess im going to try and keep on top of it in the flower beds but im struggling so far

Lesser Celandine grows from many small bulbils (tiny bulbs) so I'm not sure pouring boiling water on it will kill it. However, it would be good to know if it does!

 

i think it does the bits i killed last year havent grown back when i blitzed the gravel bit the stuff that has appeared this year is in a totally different place

 

Ficaria verna aka Celandine (syn. Ranunuclus ficaria). Rather nice in the right place. There are forms of it which are less of a problem.

Can it be used as a ground cover then and whats the best way of keeping it in check so it doesnt take over too much

Dips, that's good to know.

 

Not much use as ground cover as it will completely disappear in a short time for its summer rest. Sadly the common form is invasive, but I find weedkiller does keep it under control in areas where it is not wanted.
