Hello again, Any ideas? It had bright yellow flowers. Wondering if it wants cutting back/pulling out etc? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Looks like some sort of mallow to me - I would even go as far as to say it looks like a malva sylvestris, but I haven't seen any yellow flowered ones (that doesn't mean they don't exist though). You have tons of seed heads on there, most of which look ripe for the picking, and I would bet that each one will give 12-14 seeds which will be dead easy to cultivate next year. I have a very big soft spot for any variety of mallow.
I thought they were the dead flowers. I'll take a piccy closer up. If they're seeds I could always post you some if you'd like. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Got an idea FC is pretty near the mark. Me I'd pull it out fast and bin it, it basically a weed. IMO.
Wait until those little seed pods turn quiet brown and then the pods can be gently taken off of the stems and put into a paper bag.The seed can be a bit awkward to part from the centre of the seed pod so if you want to sow them you might have to sow the pods as they are. I had a self set mallow growing outside my front door last year with beautiful purple flowers on it which the bees loved but have had to remove the plant this year after flowering as it was growing too high and too wide If you want to keep your plant until next year cut the stem down to the base after you have taken the seeds and I should think it will come back next year.
Thanks @Kandy i thought they weren't quite ready for harvesting when I had a closer look. I'll certainly trim it down and send @fat controller some seeds too. And anyone else who wants it. Got a closer piccy this morning.
The pod to the right of your hand that is quiet black is ready for harvesting but the one to the left needs a few more days on the plant and then they will probably mature.Make sure when you take them from of the plant you put them in paper bag and put the bag on a windowsill where they get a little sun and that will hasten the ripening and will help get rid of the moisture in the seeds. As I said if you cut the plant down to where you have smaller leaves at the base of the plant then if you want to keep it,it will grow again. Mine came from I think the bird seed that I put out for the birds as I know I didn't plant mine but the bees loved them
Thanks @Kandy going to harvest seeds today and leave in the greenhouse to dry out etc. It was really pretty and if bees like it then it can stay as I love my bees! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
