I Was down at my daughters house today to do some gardening for her. I went out to start the garden and as i passed the bucket area i noticed she had been having another clear out.

she had lots of items laying in a pile to be dumped. being as i am( a bit of a bin raker) i had a good rummage and found this drive and patio pressure washer under all the other stuff.

I approached her and asked her why she was throwing it out, she said " It was leaking badly at the water connection on the unit and the pressure was rubbish,if you want it take it" as she had purchased a new one..

I took the unit home, tried to connect the gun connection onto the unit connection,it would not screw up. noticed some of the threads had been damaged on the unit connection, after 5 mins with a small file >> Hey Presto, I have a perfectly good working unit with no leaks.:dbgrtmb:. And They Were Throwing It Out ..

I blame the present education system. There is a whole generation who might be brilliant at I.T. but can't even change a fuse.:(

Give me a lump hammer and a bit of bailer twine & will happily aproach the guidance system on the space shuttle with a view to fixing it:thumbsup:

Thats an old trick Ziggy, leaving string to follow your way back, just trying to work out the size of a ball of baler twine to reach the moon and back:what::what::what::what::yess: got it BIG

Great stuff music. Strangely my pressure washer packed in tonight, was cleaning down the patio, I only use it once in a blue moon. It just make a clicking noise every time I switch it on. I've tried the 'hit it wait a hammer' technique but that hasn't freed it up. Might strip it down and spray the inards with WD40.

I was a kid during the snobby age of the 1980s, when 'keeping up with the Jones's was the standard way of life, and things got chucked out just because they weren't the latest kit.

We were a bit skint in our household though, plus my dad was always quite imaginative when it came to reusing stuff, so I guess I escaped the brainwashing to some extent.

Nowadays, my philosophy when I want something is this: First, see if I can scrounge it off someone. I'm happy to swap my junk for someone else's if necessary. If I can't scrounge it, see if I can get it second hand or build it myself. Failing that, I consider do I really want/need it at all. As a last resort, then I'll buy it, as cheaply as I can, having scoured every possible supplier.

I had several old planks of wood in the garden. We added to this collection by collecting bits of flotsam and jetsam off the beach. They were just tucked away in a corner while I thought of a use for them. Then one afternoon when one of my mates was round, I'd left my mate and my son in the garden while I went in for something. I came out just ten minutes later and they'd built a mini assault course out of all the scrap wood. Its still there now several weeks later, and still gets put to regular use.
