Shame about the dragonfly @Goldenlily26 . Nature's harsh at times isn't it?
We're never really bothered by ants here. We have them, but they don't disturb potted plants or roots etc.
You're lucky if you see half a dozen in the air on flying ant day either. I think last year was the first time I ever really noticed any. They must do it very quietly here, like the 'you ain't seen me - right?' character on The Fast Show!

Lovely to see so many bees in the garden yesterday and today, everything’s happier with a bit of sun!

Ants still in the house. When will they give up?
Sparrowhawk flew through by the bird feeders which we have had to stop filling as the squirrels just attack them so no lunch for the hawk.

Hundreds of seagulls flying high up, going round and round catching flying ants I presume. They were totally silent and it was just luck that I noticed them. Since we're in the centre of the country I wonder where they all come from and go to.

Mrs Pheasant turned up today with a couple of youngsters. Typically, I packed my camera away two days ago.

One of the more striking of the wasp-mimicking hoverflies (Chrysotoxum festivum?) here feeding in our garden on Sanguisorba Tanna.

Thankyou @On the Levels. Here's another shot I overlooked yesterday. It shows the salient features a bit better.

A hoverfly diving in for a feast. He's got little orange feet. I keep coming indoors with bright orange pollen on me where I've brushed past them.
