I quite like Peacocks having lived next door to them in both the UK and Spain. I also liked to hear them retiring to roost whilst walking round Whipsnade at night. Eerie but not annoying.

Didn't have my phone on me to snap a picture unfortunately, but I had a sparrow hawk in my garden this morning. I was watering my beans and noticed some movement, then saw a sparrow hawk dive down and grab a chubby wren between it's claws about three metres away from me.

I don't know which one of us was more surprised by the other. It stayed for a few seconds then flew away.

I'd seen hawks flying around before and even dive down a couple of times, but never so close.

I've often wondered if birds remember where they have stuffed their surplus crusts.

Our magpie, which pays a lot of interest in us if we're eating in the garden, decided that two crusts were too much. So it stuffed the other in its beak and went around the garden to find some where to stuff it for later consumption. After landing on the bird table it spotted the hanging basket by the living room window and neatly placed the crust in it. This was around 2pm.

At 9pm I was watching TV, when along came the magpie. It got on the bird table and jumped onto the hanging basket to retrieve its crust.

          What a clever magpie.

I remember a magpie hiding some old peanuts in the overlapping bits of a larchlap fence and a jay coming along two minutes later and nicking them! :)

The wee collared dove is making himself at home now, although I think Rodney's face says he's not too happy about him cosying up

Mrs LS is getting very good at spotting Hummingbird Hawkmoths. We've had brief visits on two occasions during the last week. Such busy fast-moving creatures. The garden is full of all sorts of flowers but they never seem to want to stay on any of them for more than a few seconds.

As for birds, the Swifts are at their peak at the moment. Their late evening screaming parties are just a joy to behold. Numbers got upto around 20 over the garden tonight.

I'll swap your screaming Swifts for the non-stop squawking of young Seagulls during these long daylight hours @LunarSea. With all the windows open they are driving me nuts. :frown:

Went from Headcorn as far as Bexhill (via Battle) - 3 Battle flyovers -then back to Headcorn.
I watched from our garden in Battle.

Probably didn't come over my way then, we tend to get the ones from Biggin Hill.
Headcorn is not far from me though.

                        Greenfinch takeover.
From two at first to five, they pushed the Goldfinches and Siskins off.
