    Well caught Loli:blue thumb: a Great Spotted for sure Sheal, Lesser isn't much bigger than a Sparrow and a rare sight these days.

              My first (and better) pic is in the Bird survey thread (last page) taken last April, they are here and can be seen all year round but difficult to see and even more difficult to get a pic.:smile:

              Thanks, here are a few more (what more!!!!) of my trip to Arne today, it had warmed 'up' to -1c when I got there, four hours later it was a tropical 3c:biggrin:
              not the full number of Avocets yet but about 3/400.

                  Dave, we saw a Buzzard on a fence roadside while driving to Poole yesterday and both commented about the times we had seen them close (like you) but never able to get a pic. Then the above one appeared on our walk!:smile:

                  Had our first (brief) visit from a Redpoll yesterday, hopefully not the last, didn't stay long enough for a mug shot.
                  That makes 31 different species seen in our first year here and that's without a Herring Gulls, Rooks or Redwings which are around.
