Whilst leaning over the pond earlier I saw what I thought was a dead earthworm. It was white and lying on the gravel. I reached in to fish it out and it promptly wriggled between my fingers and started burrowing into the sand:huh:. Anyone know what this worm might be please ?

Not a clue, but would like to know as well. The only white ''worms'' I`ve seen in my pond are the ones hanging out of the back end of the fish. :snorky:

:ThankYou: for the links both. I did have a quick search online myself. It's possible it's a Horsehair worm. As water magnifies things it's difficult to be sure of size unless I can remove it from the pond. I think I'm pleased to see it , what I have read says worms are beneficial ( generally speaking ) to the pond environment. I'm surprised to see it there as, other than the Pickeral I planted yesterday, there is no vegetation in the pond yet. The strong winds we've had have blown gras, pine needles, leaves, etc onto the surface, which I remove with a net.

As long as it`s not a Bobbit worm, I s`pose there`s no big problem :snorky:

Hi @luciusmaximus I hope it's nothing serious regarding your pond...can't you cover it over in the bad months till the weather picks up to stop crap going in

It was covered until recently. I uncovered it to start work on getting it up and running ready for spring. Been too lazy to keep taking tarp on and off :oopss:. There's not a lot of debris that gets blown in. And how would my little white wormy have found his new home if I kept it covered :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

He doesn't know yet but his [IMG]will be on the roof washing the moss off way before blasting slabs :roflol:
