It won't last, *dim* - it never does. The sun hangs around just long enough for Brits to buy tons of barbeque stuff and then it rains for the rest of the summer. :heehee:

was watering a small garden today with a hose after I mowed and weeded .... I only work there on thursdays, and weather forecast for next week is hot with no rain .... there are loads of newly planted plants in that garden ... lady asked me when do we fertilize the lawn again (her lawn is pristine) ... told her when Wimbeldon tennis starts

I have a feeling that there will be little rain until the wimbeldon tennis starts (it always rains at that time) .... and I'm guessing, that we are going to have a very hot dry spell until then

I see that even tesco has their BBQ briquettes at the main door

it's days like this that I miss the South Africa .... after a hard days work, a dip in the sea .... sit on the beach with the wife and kids .... have a few ice cold beers ....

          then later a BBQ ....

I used to live right on the beach

I imagine they have quite a stockpile to unload. We were in Sainsbury's a couple of weeks ago when it was freezing cold and bucketing down - as it had been for weeks. We were greeted by a display of barbeques, briquettes and other bits of assorted outdoor eating paraphernalia. I was still wearing winter woollies and a thick scarf at the time.

Don't make us all cry, as we realise this is what life abroad is like, not just a quick five days of Sun
Abroad, when the Sun comes, you can change into shorts and T shirts, Put the winter gear away for at least four months, switch on the AIR CON, check fridge is stocked with beer instead of Soups,
Go to tropical working routine, early start early finish then from Noon onwards live life as it should be lived Give the boy the afternoon off

We live where we live because we like the climate ... and other aspects of the country in question.

We chose to live here as we had been coming here since 1984 and bought in 1988 and then moved here in 2001. It's hot at times but when you are older you appreciate that more than the damp cold winter / even summers ... do they still exist in the UK?

                  NO REGRETS ... :)

                  Edit: Changed 2011 to 2001 ... :oopss:

Jack, I never got where I am today by having afternoons off. Don't encourage the boy into bad ways.:nonofinger:

I worked longer hours because I was a contractor and greedy

                      worked from 07h00 till 16h00 ... home by 16h30 ...

                      no work ... no pay

but made sure that time off was quality time ... and weather was great ....

I find spring and summers here good ... (last few weeks were crappy though) ....

I just miss the sea ... would love to live in a place like Cornwall

One day Dim, maybe one day you will return to the water's edge. Isn't the sea a bit cold and rough in S.Africa?

depends where you live in South Africa ... I lived on the east cost close to a city called Durban ... hot and subtropical ....

the sea is the Indian ocean ... the average water temp is 21 degrees C ... and in winter, the water temp drops to approx 17 degrees C .... and has an average of 320 days of hot sunshine ...

summer temperatures are often in the mid 30's .... In winter, the coldest it gets there is 16 degrees C (but that is in the early mornings, then it heats up again in the day)

the west coast of the cape is different though .... nice in summer, but cold and wet in winter, and the ocean is the Atlantic ocean which can be very cold at times
