Why do you like gardening?

Gardenguru good on you,its so nice to hear that someone of your age is into gardening instead of computer games etc,it must be in your blood.and how nice of your mum to buy you your very own greenhouse.I'd love one myself but I only have a small garden. you'll have to let us know how you get on.Good luck!

 

Intresting, Ive always found growing from seed tediuse, same with cuttings.

My pleasure is largly from seeing mature plants thriving, watching the sesons change, getting a nice tan and the satisfaction of seing a neat finish after a long day.

 

i think growing from seed is so satisfying when you see the seeds coming up

 

Bare with me...

As a youngster, gardening for me was a chore I hated. Spuds and yet more spuds...Grandad was still digging for victory I think!

At the age of 24 I had my own garden and it was a right dump of a patch. Clearing the plot took years and I hated the whole process of Autumn digging and Spring planting and the rest of my year keeping the weeds and pests out!

One day my Grandma visited and brought with her a rose bush,she walked into the middle of my grub ravished patch and plonked it down with the words.."Plant this here darling,Gramps has more than enough veg for both of us"
"What is it called?" I asked.
"A rose silly" she replied with a wink and a kiss.
"Don't worry what it's name is...just look after it for me"
So I watched over it, and every other plant she gave me every time she came ,each one unlabeled.
Somewhere during those years my plot changed from a place I didn't want to be to a place I thought about all day. No names ,no pack drill,just plants.
When she passed away I was given the chance to take one plant from her garden. I selected a Rose bush,it had no label of course,but it has the most delicious scent and now grows next the one she gave me.

Her wisdom is the reason I now love my garden and it's my place of reflection,I understand that her care for me was a delicate as our care for our plants.

Beautifull Pal, Memories

 

I like gardening because I like being creative and it teaches me patience. Nothing happens overnight in the garden (except maybe a suddenly emerging flower)I love seeing seeds I have planted and cuttings taken develop into full grown plants. I love seeing my rockery take shape and fill out. I like the experimentation of finding out what will grow where, what was a good idea and what a bad one. I like to find the balance between order and chaos. It's like chucking buckets of paint at a canvass in slow motion, you never quite know how it will turn out. I even like the winter months when I plan out the next year and grow excited at the potential to come.

I came to gardening (for pleasure) late in life. As part of a large corporation I had always seen gardening as work and something that was thrust upon me. When I got a garden of my own it all changed and I suddenly realised how lucky I was to be working in something I enjoyed

 

Pal that's really sweet and I'm a great believer that if you could wish for any kind of gift from a loved one it would be a plant for the garden, something you can tend to and even talk too a brilliant reminder of a lost loved one and just like love it grows more and more each day.

Gardening for me is having that special place for me to disappear to, so far away from all life's woe's it really enchants you as I'm sure most of you already know time passes by almost like a blink of the eye....hours seem like minutes when out enjoying your garden.Hel.xxx.
