    If you have an online presence, you have observers. I prefer to use software and kit that works and kept up-to-date and mask my online location using a VPN, but each to their own

      Yes, doubtless, thats why we try and stay as safe as possible, but knowing the best way to go is no an easy route to know ?
      While we know VPN does mask the users real IP address, the more we read about it the less secure it sounds , dependant to some degree on the provider you use, plus it can create problems when banking online as they typically require your real location.

      Any recommendations as to what software and kit provides better safety greatfully received.
      Have looked at Linux and could use it for most things, but again knowing how 'safe' it really is ?

      Just go with Chrome as a browser, it's safe and pretty unbeatable in performance etc. Avoid anything not regularly updated and out of date or aged software such as internet explorer.
      VPN providers are legion so just read some reviews, I use private internet access but there's plenty of options.
