While in Holland yesterday, we saw this "turnable" windmill. Whereas normal windmills only turn to catch the wind by moving the very top part, where the sails or propellers (?) are attached, this whole one turns, just the foot bit is stationary. This one is not living quarters as the regular ones are/were. There are no windows and only the one door, to get to the working mechanics inside.
Yes, it was big, but regular windmills seem to be even bigger, pip, at least I think so. You can see our car in the background, we were parked about 15 meters away from it. I have a pic of another one, used for weddings. I'll look in PB for it to show you it.
Beautiful pics, Sis ... this is really Dutch 100%. You know we love windmills of all sorts and that would like to buy one to convert. Still a few for sale here.
We had a derelict mill in Scarborough and somebody bought it and converted it into an hotel. Sound like a good idea? Have you ever seen a windmill/hotel with neon flashing 'vacancy' signs outside and terrible food inside? Having seen LoL's photos of her house, I think she would have better taste. Next time I'm in that part of town, I'll get you a picture, but not a sample of the Bird's Eye food.
The hotel sounds nice Sarra but the flashing neon signs....... - but, I would still like to see a pic! Here is one of the Wedding Windmill, not too far from us. I just looked on the net, seems to be quite a few of them in Germany but couldn't find any good pics of them.
