I think I'm using 8 but in pc mode, :scratch:cant stand those stupid app pages.:th scifD36:
Cant even work out how you navigate your way around.

What happened to 9, did it get lost somewhere in the confusion, or cant Bill Gates count?

Dont think I'll bother with 10 if it looks like the pic Woo has put up.:sofa:

From what I can gather it will automatically set everything up Jack without you having to change anything.

The only cost would be if you haven't automatically been offered Windows 10 and given the option to take it up free anytime in the next year.

It's free for a year assuming you have been given the option by Microsoft and it can be taken up at any time within that year. I was originally sent an email and downloaded the initial info, I now have a little white window sitting on the bottom right of my screen. All I need to do is hit that and Windows 10 is available for downloading (or is that uploading :))

If you haven't been given the option Windows 10 will cost you unless you buy a new computer.

Apparently Windows 9 was going to follow 8 but along the way it was decided to opt for a combination of 7 and 8, so they dropped 9 and went to 10.

It's not all like that Pete, apparently it is user friendly and uses much of what is in Windows 7. Microsoft received so many complaints about Windows 8 they thought it best to compromise. The new combination in 10 is apparently user friendly for all, meaning computers, pads and phones.

The introduction of the new browser 'Edge' to replace IE is also new with Windows 10 and is getting good reviews.

The idea with Windows 10 is not to replace for a 'Windows 11' in the future but to stick with it and update as technology progresses.

There are plenty of sites on the web to give you a detailed and simple explanation of how Windows 10 functions if you are prepared to take a look. :)

I'll be sitting tight for a while (currently & only recently on 8.1), I know of two people who have tried it and uninstalled it already after it wouldn't recognise some of their software and hardware??

I'm holding fire on installation too Bilbo. I was warned that there may be some initial gremlins to sort out.

I uploaded it last night, so far I like it, no charm bar everything accessible from the little windows icon, bottom left, I use firefox and it offers you the options at the beginning to stick with your usual settings, all good so far.:pcthwack:

Plenty of posts on the internet about Windows 10 user privacy concerns as well as some peripherals and video drivers not being supported after upgrading for some. Worth doing some searches if interested or trying to decide and of course there is a year in which you have the option to upgrade for free for many Win7/8 users.

Microsoft will be supporting Windows 7 until 2020 so that is my decision to stay with Win7 confirmed, very solid professional operating system works perfectly for me on laptops and PCs.

My son loaded Windows 10 onto his touch screen laptop yesterday, he was using 8 before. He says so far he's pleased with the way it functions and as yet no gliches. He has also made use of 'Cortana' and reckons 'she' has been very useful.

Apparently Windows 10 is due for an update at the end of August.
