I need to start clearing a bit of floor space in the dining room (bit of a general de-clutter of areas) so am looking at some wine racks mounted on the wall. We saw one last week in a restaurant, a simple vertical brushed steel affair with holes for 12 bottles (a convenient number for a case:) ) but after a look on tinterweb there's loads of variety and I'm again in a quandary! I also like the 2nd one below as it's wood and has space for glasses... Both would go with the decor as it's pale colours with light oak furniture. Any thoughts?

As I buy corks for my homebrew in sacks of 1,000 neither would be large enough for me.

But I do like this one

Unless you are going to drink it promptly I'd want the bottles lying down - corks will get dry otherwise (well, assuming you do have corks ...)

We have cellar-stored which is in a cool atmosphere. That has a honeycomb made of wooden doweling which was cheap to buy and easy to assemble.

In the house we have a piece of furniture that I got off eBay which is a grid of pigeon holes in which we store our drink-soon bottles. Won't sit flat on a wall though ... Ours is bigger than this, and makes a nice sideboard as well as storing bottles:

I quite like the clay drainage-pipe bottle holders - just need to retaining "sides" and fill the gap with pipes.

you can take a similar approach without the clay pipes:

Variations on the theme that you posted, which i stumbled over finding images above:

can't read the bottle labels though

        Labels upside down ...

First, wine needs to be laid down so the liquid touches the cork. Second thing it needs to be maintained in a certain temp. With those two issues, go from there. I keep mine in the honeycomb one in the basement, which is unheated, and kept at the proper temp.

This is only for a mere 12 bottles! No long term storage and must be off the floor. Anything being stored long term is elsewhere in the mansion...
Loving the clay pipes but not required here. The horizontal requirement has dictated the first choice of a vertical holder which is now en route:)
While the other option was nicer and more rustic, after measuring a few things [ahem] I decided it wasn't the best choice.
Luckily I have solid brick walls so it <shouldn't> fall off the wall once up!
