It could be a problem as it can spread easily. Here's some info
    Bindweed/RHS Gardening

You could disguise it by growing annual Morning Glory which will give you colour in the summer and a chance to work on the bindweed in the Winter and Spring.

My first thought (cover fencing/woodland theme/shade) Virginia Creeper. Gorgeous greenery in the summer and resplendent ruby red/russet shades in the Autumn. Bare all Winter and later to shoot than the dreaded bindweed (which means you can get a real grip of the bindweed as soon as it shows its first stalks of the year prior to the VC showing signs of life). Plus, the leaves of a VC are very distinguishable from the leaves of bindweed; so, you would be able to see any bindweed getting a grip and simply unfurl it from the VC and either: a) trace it to the root and manually remove; or, b) use an appropriate chemical control - once unwound and separated from the VC.

I can understand the thought process of turning a negative into a positive but my concern would be, once established it would all too easily travel to other areas of your garden via its extensive root system; plus, once it flowers (and it does quite rapidly - one day nowt, another day full bloom) you'll find it popping up all over the garden!

My advice would be, whatever you decide to grow: plant something with leaves which are completely different to bindweed so that you can tackle the blighter as early in the season as practicable and yet still recognise it as the weeks go by!

PS: I bought some VC from Morrisons @ £1.79 per pot. In the first year, they put on little growth (most likely establishing their roots) but, the next Spring, lots of vigour! I'm sure by their 3rd year they will be flourishing and giving ample coverage. Of course, you could go the more mature root/route (pun intended), pay that bit more and get a strong, established plant which, at this time of year, could cover at least one and a half of those panels before the season ends.

Good luck with whatever you decide for those panels
