We had our work's do today. Did we go for a pint? Nope. A meal perhaps? Nope.

We went tank driving first thing in the morning, then spent the rest of the day charging around some woods shooting each other - with paintball guns.

It was tremendous fun, even if I did nearly die for real in just the second battle. I got a bit carried away see, and momentarily forgot a few important facts:

    1) I am less fit than I should be
    2) I am heavier than I ought to be
    3) I was never a commando, ever, and so am not really built for charging through sloppy mud full sprint, diving behind trees and barrels, crawling along on my belly, popping out and unleashing a few rounds of bright yellow hell, then running full sprint for the next position of cover :)

So by the end of battle 2, I'd sweated so much that I'd properly dehydrated myself. Everyone seemed genuinely worried when, after the battle, I went wobbly and fell down, but a glass of water and a few minutes to cool off sorted me out, and I promised my colleagues that I wouldn't try to be SAS man again:) So for the rest of the day I mostly took up defensive, ambush and covering roles so as to not have to do so much sprinting about. Our side won overall 5:1, and in the grudge match final battle, I was the last man standing. Tremendous fun.

Sounds like you had a great time there Clueless.

We're having our works 'do' this weekend, fairly tame by comparison. We're going ten pin bowling followed by a meal at a posh restaurant.

Only danger of injury as far as I can see is from dropping a bowling ball on my foot.

Yes. In fact the two ladies were both on my team (or I was on theirs, whichever you want to look at it) and they proved key to our 5:1 overall victory. I don't think they manage to actually shoot too many people, but in the 'capture the flag' type games their agility proved essential in quickly retrieving objects while I and the other lad on our team laid down covering fire, i.e. lads hide behind a nice safe barricade and fire shots over the top while lasses run out into the open, right in the line of enemy fire/paint before running back giggling carrying their spoils of war back to our bunker.

Us lads did too, but at the beginning of each game, while planning our strategy, where speed and agility was called for, it made sense for the ladies to do it. There are only two ladies in our company (well 3, but one couldn't come), and they both keep themselves super fit. Other members of our side where me and the biggest lad in the company (at 6'5"), so an unfit target and the biggest target, so it made sense for the smaller, faster, more agile members of the team to take the direct approach while me and the other lad provided cover, distractions etc.
