Would you let a stranger open your car, put something in the boot, close it again, and then walk off, all without you having seen what they did?

We quite quite a lot of our routine grocery shopping from a farm. We've become familiar with a farmer's wife who works in the shop, not so much with the main man or his staff because they are usually out in the fields.

Today, while inside the barn chatting to the farmer's wife, I said I'd take a sack of spuds in addition to the other stuff we'd bought. The main man was in earshot, and shouted as he wandered off, 'I'll put one in for yer'. We didn't see him again, but I had no doubt that when I opened the boot to put our other stuff in, there would be a sack of spuds in there. There was.

I love this 'buy local' thing. I wouldn't dream of leaving my car unlocked in Tesco's car park, but I do it at the farm because it is not unusual for the farmer or one of chaps to put stuff in the car for me if they're around, all while I'm chatting up his lovely wife:)

And the 25kg sack of spuds we've bought today, I'm told, came out of the ground today. They are still mid harvest, so these are effectively new potatoes. Miles from harvest to point of sale = zero. Storage time, a few hours, I guess that's why it was an unusually pricey £10 for the sack today (usually £7 or £5 depending on the time of year and whether they are local or lorried in).

King Edwards - just arrived ! Placed an order for half a sack = £5.50. Paying a bit of Battle tax I reckon,
