    Hi Guys,

I have a Yucca tree and it seems to have got some horrible yellow/white gunk coming out of it? Im guessing this is bad, is this the end of the life for this yucca because it looks really nice in my front garden.

    Hi Chris,

I've just referred to the RHS book of Garden Pests and Diseases and without being 100% sure it does look like a canker [possibly a variety of aplanobacter]. I take it that it hasn't received a wound in that area recently? Are there any other symptoms such as wilting leaves etc? Even from that very good photo it is hard to be sure of the cause. The yellow areas look like a budding fungus but it is easy to mis-interpret unless you can actually see and touch it. Hopefully there's somebody in this forum who's a expert in this field who can either confirm or dismiss my tentative diagnosis.

Hi Chris, is this a yucca or a cordyline, if its a yucca which species is it, if you know, it might help.

Another point is how cold has it been in your area recently.

    Could be frost damage.

    Hi Chris,
I think, as Armandii says, it does look like Canker. A photo of the whole plant would be interesting, because as Pete says, I think that frost damage is very likely to be the underlying cause. Certainly the prolongued freezing conditions in the vale of York area has seen off just about every Yucca I have seen.

    Hi Guys,

Really sorry for the late reply, work has been an absolute nightmare lately.

Unfortunately the Yucca took a turn for the worst this weekend with all the wind and pretty much all the leaves have gone and generally looks bad.
The weather in the area has been pretty sever as it has for much of the Uk with it dropping to around -10 in some cases.

Please see this picture that i have just taken. I have also added one from in the smmer just gone.
Please not i have chopped the top of the one branch/trunk to stub its growth as it was getting a little tall. I was advised to do one each year as not to shock the tree to much and give it time to recover.

That looks like Cordyline australis with bad frost damage. There is a chance it might recover when the warmer weather arrives, so don't do anything too hasty yet.

    What's your location?
