It sound more like a pest to me than a disease Gareth. Have you given the leaves close inspection underneath?

I'm guessing, but it looks a bit like mildew.

this Lord Derby has been very healthy until this year. It's about 25 years old, and leaves have started going brown and falling off, from the Middle. Can't see any sign of caterpillars, rolled up in leaves.

I find scrunching the horsetail a bit before spraying it helps. I imagine using sandpaper would be even more effective as it would open the surface up more.

The spot seems a bit restricted for Bamboo, some of that stuff spreads like crazy. How about a passion flower, if your going down the ornamental route.Not sure how protected the area is, but I've had real luck recently with Podranea, just fleece in winter could be all it would need.

If you cut the flowers off lupins they often flower again later. Not quite such large flowers, but a second crop.

I just water the tray if I get the gnats, they don't like the top layer being dry.

Blimey, that doesn't look good. Have you checked for pests on the foliage/buds? It looks like it's in a pot, so it might be worth knocking it out and checking the roots for pests also. Have you used a weedkiller anywhere near it?

I managed to pod a carrier bag full of broad beans off of one lot of beans yesterday and we might get a few more to pick but the next two rows have only a few beans on them which are quiet small and most of the flowers have been covered with blackfly so the bees couldn't get in to do their job....

Rabbits will eat the tops rather than dig them out to eat the roots. In winter when there's no top growth they'll nibble the tops of the roots.Badgers will dig up carrots.
