I sharpen my shears using a flat diamond stone. You can get into the corners better.Lots of different kinds available.But if the shears are really old and been reground over the years it might be a good idea to invest in a new pair.

It's a slight variation on a normal garden shovel, I'd say. A pointy shovel obviously requires less leverage to remove soil and thus less back strain.

I have the 2nd one and the third one. My hand shovel comes with measurements on it. However, a gardener usually figures out measurements using her own thumb/hands/ fingers. ect. so she does not need such measurement tools. The other stuff for me is not necessary.

I bag the leaf shreddings and then add them to the compost heap and worm bins during the summer to help maintain a balance of 'greens' and 'browns'.

Re the Stihl hedge trimmer.. I have the HS 85 which is basically the largest of the HS trimmers. I had a Ryobi before that. The Stihl starts very very easily. Its light. It has double sided cutting blades . Oh and did I mention its easy to start ? Im a bit of a stickler when it comes to tools...

I found petrol ones are usually heavy, noisy and more powerful. If you have loads of grass to strimm often, then it is maybe better choice?Battery ones are light, quieter and does good job too, but battery must be good (heavy duty ones such as 3 Ah ones) to be useful. My old strimmer battery...
