Not really. Not when I see long term close friends suddenly treating each other as enemies just because of the way they voted or the reasoning they applied.

So, basically I'm in the wrong and my comment is invalid because I'm not married and don't have other people living with me.

There are a few points there. No, I could not really live but I have survived for periods on far less on more than one occasion. For me it was easier because I knew that I was still building for my future. For the migrant (as opposed to immigrant) workers you mention it is easier because they know that when they return they will be wealthy by their homeland standards as you have pointed out.
The point about no local workers applying is a vexed question isn't it. We have got used to cheap supermarket prices, we object if they go up but then we all say that it is disgusting that the pickers are paid so poorly. Yet many of us are party to the price war that led to the all-powerful supermarkets telling farmers what they will be paid (and how many months down the line) instead of asking how much is your product and what are your terms?
No rates and heating? An itinerant worker living in a grace a favour caravan (no matter how shoddy) over the summer could not be expected to pay rates on a mobile home and would not need heating surely.
I'm not sure how someone who is happy to leach off the state (and is probably too thick to even know what an apple looks like anyway) bears comparison with a migrant worker coming here to work long hours, come rain or shine, for very little money by the standards of the workshy. If I had my way for every immigrant worker who comes in I would select one of these parasites (and their brood) and put them on a flight in the opposite direction. As I'm all heart I would give them a tenner to start a new life with and then use the benefit savings to lift the genuine claimants out of enforced poverty.

I would put the figure at far less than 52%.

I actually had to loose the plot for the second time with a lorry driver at work a few weeks ago! He was so rude to a foreign lorry driver who was talking to me about his sick relative whom he'd been sending money home too,the foreign lorry driver is always happy & very respectful to me whereas the English lorry driver is grumpy & so arrogant it's unbelievable! The English driver passed two very unnecessary comments to the foreign driver about taking our jobs/healthcare & houses ...I flew around to him & said 'I do believe this person is working really hard here as is his wife, he wants to make a better life for himself & is achieving that, is your daughter still refusing to go to work but claiming every benefit she can?' The room went silent so I added ' I think you should appologise right now because I for one an not going to tolerate this sort of racist behaviour!' He English lorry driver appologised & left the building! You all know I don't agree with the amount of people coming into our county claiming benifits who have never paid in BUT if someone wants to come & work hard then I welcome them in with open arms! Rant over!

I didn't say that, Anthony, what I said was the subject as to whether or not you should pay less or more for rates, etc, is a different issue than the one we were/are discussing.:dunno::snorky:

Actually, you are wrong. Children need a lot more than food and a roof over their heads. And the amount of water they use is not free nor many other things. What, no flushing except after a number 2?. I was also a victim of downsizing many years ago and muddled through to the next job without government assistance. And I was a single Mum receiving zero child support. How do you tell a child that you cannot afford the milk program at school? Or, no, you cannot go on that school trip, we have no money. So instead you work fast to get a new job.

Lori, I think your country is different to ours.

To take the water for example, we all pay the same amount. It doesn't matter whether ten people live in your house or one.

I totally agree. Many years ago after a bitter split with the ex I was stuffed - solicitor bills coming out of my ears and a whacking mortgage on a house that I couldn't sell until the courts had had their say. Now I did have a house that I rented out which meant that my net monthly deficit was only about £1500. When I asked for temporary accommodation I was told to kick my tenants out and move in there  I slept in my workshop for nearly four months until I was finally allowed to evict my ex (who had not contributed a penny towards the house or renovations which I did after a 12 hour day) and sell it.
Despite having proven myself capable of earning and saving like boogery the bank told me to sod off when I asked for an overdraft. Yet when I sold the house and had a fat wedge of profit they plagued me with phone calls trying to get me to invest it with them

That is, I'm afraid, inaccurate, Anthony. Canada families face the same bills and problems as any family does, English, Scots, Irish, American, French, German, whatever. Trying to say that just because another person lives in Canada their views and experience is not valid because their water rates are different is off target. All families in North America and Europe face bills for food, resources, maintaining a family rather than a single person, energy etc, and a single person with no responsibilities to a Wife and children cannot even come close to knowing the problems.:dunno:

@Anthony Rogers That is so so different. We pay for every drop so those who waste, or have family get a nice big bill. We, like @longk , have a meter. Sometimes I think it should make a noise like a cash register! We also get charged for sewage on every drop whether it goes down the sink or on the garden.

                          Interesting.....

I agree. My niece is livid with my sister and brother in law and the house is a war zone. A bad war zone. Like really nasty.
Now for me I know I'm right, I know that 52% of my fellow country men were wrong but am I going to hold it against them? Of course not but I shall be saying I told you so.
