When do you bring Brugmansia in for the winter and also take cuttings ?

Also, how do I over winter my Brugmansia? I have a unheated greenhouse and a garage.

I leave mine out as long as possible, but get ready to drag them in if a frost threatens, they would probably survive a very light frost at this time of the year but best to not chance it.

I then dry them off under cover before cutting back fairly hard.
Frost free is best, so if the garage is brick built or concrete etc, its likely to be better insulated than a cold greenhouse.

I currently have my first flowers on the Grand Marnier, and they are lovely. I grew it to a standard in the end.

The garage is brick built, so as soon as the light frost starts I will bring it in. Fingers crossed it won't die this time, but I will take cuttings anyway.

i assume I water now and again during the winter months to keep the soil from drying out, but no food?

Mine get no water all winter, start to water again in March when we get the odd warmer day, but only very little.
Once mine go in the garage that's it, just sweep up the leaves as they fall.

    You're welcome.
Just my way of doing it, other ways work also.
Most depend on how much heat you can or are willing to provide.

Mine go into my heated greenhouse over winter. It's kept just above freezing - around 5C. The Brugs defoliate at that temp and I occasionally have to water a very little.

I tried some cuttings last autumn and the ones in the greenhouse didn't survive. I had some indoors and they were OK - so I think if you do take cuttings they need a little more heat than 5C. The ones that survived were on a northern facing window sill indoors.

If you do take cuttings make sure you take them from above the "Y" i.e. from the flowering part of the plant.
