WHAT JOBS ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY - 2017

I'm looking forward to Hellebore season. I have prepared the bed with fresh manure so I will have to wait until that rots down before I attempt to plant anything. I guess it will be late spring by then. I"m hoping Hellebore is still in flower then.

The three Hellebores I planted are not doing anything, no signs of growth, but no signs of dying either, guess that's good . I did think maybe they might not, that they maybe need time to adjust

Today, we went and collected a plastic P shaped bath bought on Ebay for £5 Its brand new just a little dirty from being stored outside. It's going to be the wildlife pond in front garden. It's not as deep or as long as a traditional bath and has the benefit of not having a plug hole drilled out.

 

@shiney that area of your garden with hellebores looks lovely. So tranquil and relaxing. The subtle colours of the hellebores will be ideal there.

 

Your tiny pond looks nice, Lucius. It will probably grow on you when the plants start to settle in and grow.

 

Installed an LED floodlight to up light the silver birch. Quite pleased with the light - it's solidly built and was £18 from B&Q - 20w = 100w output.

Should look fab-u-lous against the black night sky .

 

The new light is AWESOME - well worth £18 - brings a new dimension to the garden . Works well with a leafless tree - highlights the branch structure

 

Roger made a start on the bath pond today. I've been laid low with a stomach bug for a few days and feeling sorry for myself, so not able to physically help. I watched from the window . Hoping to do a bit tomorrow.

 

My neighbours have a hot tub in their back garden. My wife would like one but it would have to be enclosed.

We have to pay to have our garden waste taken away. Earlier this year my bin was missed. I rang up and complained. A few months later it was missed again. Our bins have a sticker on them to say who has paid for the service. My sticker was out of date. I had been getting free bin collections for over a year .

One of the reasons I bought the compost bin was to avoid paying the charge. I'm not sure how much garden waste I'm going to accumulate next year but I'm sure it will be more than my compost bin can hold. Thankfully I cleared most of the bulk this year. I guess a trip to the tip with a builder's bag of grass cuttings once in a while isn't going to put me out too much.
