@longk , my S. Dolichantha has just produced its first buds. Grew it from your seed three years ago.

        Watch this space :)

Keep it well watered to avoid deformed flowers.

Two plants I’m sure are salvia’s we’re getting very leggy despite being staked and tied. The purple flowers on the shoots slowly faded so I cut them back. Was this silly? Will they flower again this year? The bushier one in the first pic has lots of new growth.

Do you have a close up? There are so many (approx 1000 species plus all the cultivars and hybrids) that it's a job to know what you have.

@NigelJ - This is Salvia atrocyanea (in bloom today).............

Note how the flower sits deep in the bract.

This was from seed from Robin the other year. The leaf looks, feels and smells different to S guarantica Black and Blue. My Black and Blue is still recovering from the Beast from the East that reduced it to a stump. I lost S confertifolia.

As Robin points out some hybridisation is always possible when you grow so many Salvia. To my eyes it does look rather like S.guaranitica 'Santa Maria' though. I kept three of the S.guaranitica var. violacea and all have subtle differences in leaf and bloom.

                        Ditto here.
